Joan Robinson Berry

Joan Robinson-Berry is an Advisory Board Member at Project Texas. In 2020, Joan retired from The Boeing Company as Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer for Boeing Global Services. As Vice President and Chief Engineer, Robinson-Berry was responsible for strengthening Boeing’s enterprise engineering expertise and encouraging a company-wide approach to meeting customer, business, and operational priorities – with emphasis on safety, quality, and integrity. Previously, Joan was Vice President of Engineering, Modifications and Maintenance for Boeing Global Services (BGS), providing worldwide support for BGS’ government and commercial customers across all of Boeing’s product lines and capability offerings. She also held the title of Vice President and General Manager of Boeing South Carolina (BSC), Vice President of Shared Services Group (SSG), where she led the strategy, contracting, daily management, and development of the supply chain to provide more than $8 billion of non-production of goods and services. 

Additionally, Joan’s previous roles include Director of Phantom Works Supplier Management for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS); Director of Technical Workforce Excellence; and Program Manager of Twinjet Programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA). Joan Robinson-Berry has received extensive recognition for her work in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics from global organizations, including members of the United States Congress and National Society of Black Engineers. 

Joan has a host of accolades: in 2019, Joan was recognized by Black Enterprise as one of the most Powerful Women in Corporate America. In 2017, Joan was included in Women’s Enterprise magazine’s Top 100 leaders in corporate supplier diversity. In 2012, Joan was inducted into Career Communications Group Alumni Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the Women of Color Professional Achievement Award in 2015. 

Joan Robinson-Berry finished from California State Polytechnic University (Pomona) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management and Business Administration from the University of California (Riverside). She is an Associate Technical Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute. Joan has received honorary Doctorate degrees from Charleston Southern University (Business), Allen University (Law) and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Engineering). 

Joan has a heart for philanthropy. She was appointed to the Boards of Proterra, Unaka Corporation, and Valmont Industries, and other corporations. She has a very active foundation, and started a corporation focused on STEM for minority women.
